Responding to domestic abuse

Walk in the light

Posted by James on 8 December 2023

“Jesus once again addressed them: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.” The Pharisees objected, “All we have is your word on this. We need more than this to go on.” (John 8:12-13, The Message paraphrase)

During his earthly ministry, Jesus was challenged many times; this paraphrase of John 8 shows us the pressure he was under to prove the truth of what he was saying. He says that He provides ‘plenty of light to live in’. So, why can it sometimes feel like there’s only darkness?

Perhaps we need to be more intentional in finding the light, and then walk in it.

Jesus was born into the world to bring light and life, life to the full. For individuals subjected to domestic abuse, life to the full can often be as far away from their reality as is possible. There are currently over 600 women in our Survivors’ Network. So many of them didn’t receive the ‘full of light and life’ response from the church that they should have done. Will you live within the ‘plenty of light’ that Jesus offers, or will you choose to leave them in darkness?

This Christmas, light a beacon of hope for survivors

You can ensure more churches are equipped to respond to domestic abuse and support survivors.
