Speaking up
Standing against domestic abuse can seem like a daunting task, and it’s hard to know where to start in doing something about it. The good news is that you can start simple: by talking about domestic abuse with your friends, in your workplaces, and in your church.
Our research into domestic abuse in church communities found that, for many people, domestic abuse is seen as ‘private’ or ‘hidden’. In contrast, being part of a community in which domestic abuse is talked and prayed about can encourage survivors to feel safe to come forward. It also lets people know that you are committed to justice, and aren’t willing to sweep abuse or wrongdoing under the carpet.
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
Prayers and liturgy for churches
We’ve put together this resource containing example prayers and liturgy, to help your church begin speaking up against domestic abuse in services and small groups.
Request a speaker
We’d love to come along to your church service or event. We can speak about what the Bible has to say about domestic abuse, and inspire your congregation to take up the call to stand against injustice and support survivors.
The Red Chair Project
Each year, we join in with the Red Chair Project, to raise awareness of domestic abuse and make a place for the women and girls lost through gender-based violence.
